The Classic Man is back and ready to take over Houston in style. After graduating from Stanford University, Jidenna began working on his music career. Al though his identity as a polished man in suits helped to launch him into stardom, Jidenna decided to loosen up his tie and return to his roots for his next work. Released on August 23rd, the project incorporates different sounds derived from music of various groups of people — like a traveler displaying his souvenirs.
Despite the changes in theme and outfits, Jidenna sticks to his simple rhymes and soothing vocals- a recipe that continues to prove successful for him. Prior to the big release, Jidenna announced a tour to accompany his album which would kick off in October.

P our out a little liquor for the Classic Man. Cut to and his new album, 85 to Africa, etaches Jidenna from his Classic Man guise. His west African roots have occasionally been evident in his music — Jidenna partially grew up in Nigeria, where his father was born — but this album leans even harder on old Afrobeat and high life music, with a splash of Caribbean rhythms for good measure. The sun-kissed Vaporiza, another highlight, benefits from some peppy brass work.
Given the accomplished nature of the instrumentation, it is a shame that, unlike the classic records it ostensibly draws influence from, the production of 85 to Africa is clean to the point of sterility. Some dirt on the guitars might have gifted the record more warmth. While the title track is distinctly personal, as he thinks about relatives and envisions a global black seat of power, his rapping lacks distinction.
The album is bookended by two of his finest moments. Closer The Other Half is a grinding hip-hop soul love song with a beating heart as big as its bass. In these moments, Jidenna gives reason to believe he can outlast the gimmicks. Topics Hip-hop. Soul Rap reviews. Reuse this content.

You might have a few questions right now: Who is Jidenna? What is a “classic man”? How can you become one? Why does this guy look like.
What is a “classic man”? How can you become one? Allow me to help. Jidenna is a rapper born in Wisconsin and raised in Nigeria. The song has been around for a while; it was originally released in February, has been lurking on the Billboard charts since May, and was given a little boost by the release of the above Kendrick Lamar remix this month. Why bother bringing it up now? I was in Chicago last weekend for a music festival, one I attend every summer to see a few bands and even more friends who live around the continent.
As described in a manifesto on Jidenna’s website :. He is the man that steps up to care for that which is not his own. He is the street elegant old-fashioned man, the urban sophisticate. He is a man that every man wants to be and every woman wants to be with. To both his lovers and his enemies, his charm is a necessary evil.

In early , Jidenna leased a mansion in Atlanta, Georgia for a few months to live and record music. According to the rapper, his lease payments were up to date but his landlord fell behind on paying the mortgage. Eventually, the house was foreclosed with Jidenna and the company still living in it. While going through the eviction process, the rapper recalls being mistreated by some officials and believes that race might have played a role. After an African tour that took him from Ethiopia to South Africa to Nigeria, the rapper decided to stay in Africa for roughly six more months.
The Epic music star spent most of his time on the continent between South Africa and his native Nigeria, but he also visited Eswatini formerly Swaziland , Namibia and Mozambique. He says the decision to remain in Africa was made easy because he could watch President Trump wall off the US from the rest of the world. Jidenna poured his African experience into the music. He released the Boomerang EP toward the end of and targeted it toward what has increasingly become his secondary audience.
Jidenna took the biggest songs from his debut album The Chief and remixed them with African artists. The 7-track EP also contained original music, and that too had strategic features. The song went platinum and peaked at number 22 US Billboard Hot charts. Jidenna rapped about class and dressed the part, rocking bespoke three-piece suits, club collar shirts, and a finger wave hairstyle that all referenced early 20th Century style.

But most people know me as Classic Man. I started rapping after somebody told me that no one wanted to hear poetry anymore. They wanted rap music, so I started making instrumentals I could record over.
